About the album:

If “angel girl”, the album before this one, was my getting dumped album. Then “u & i @ southcentre” is my getting back on track album. I was going through a very turbulent time when those albums were released, hence the plethora of emo song titles.

Most of the song’s compositions were inspired by Chuck Person’s Ecco Jams Vol. 1. That album was on repeat during that time and so my music reflected it! Songs like the opening track, “when u r loved <3”, “ur my everything”, “can we be lovers??”, and “got 2 get someone” are all direct influences from that Ecco Jams style.

The theme for this album is virtual reality. Imagine a mall that you can shop online with your friends all while in the comfort of your own home! I was inspired for this, and many other albums, from the movie WALL-E. The idea that technology has advanced so much that humans have slipped away from reality itself and now live in virtual reality fascinates me to no end. Other albums that have this theme are “仮想ロビーONLINE!”, “CyberMall.com” and “The Digital Dimension”.

Bonus facts:
- the small interludes you hear interspersed throughout are from the famous evergreen collection of Kmart cassette tapes!
- Southcentre is a mall here in Calgary that I have now become super familiar with in the last year and so I used it for the title!
- The picture used for the album cover is from the PC game “Mall Tycoon 2”
